Originally opening in Nelson Bay in 2015, Boho Luxe Trader is Darby Street’s newest storefront that is the creative brainchild of the mother/daughter duo; Karen & Olivia.
More than 20 years ago, Karen commenced her women’s fashion and giftware business in Dungog, before moving to Nelson Bay to establish a more diversified women’s outlet, including expanding into homewares and artworks. So, retail has always been a passion and a huge part of the lives of these two.
The combination of passions; Karen's retail experience, paired with Olivia's knowledge and expertise in interior design and home staging, made for the reality of Boho Luxe Trader to come to life. With their original space in Nelson Bay being popular amongst locals and visitors alike, it's no surprise to see their arrival on Darby Street has been a huge success with their organic, and earthy vibes hitting the spot with local shoppers.
So, why the move to Newcastle?
“Moving the store to Newcastle offered an opportunity for us to combine and apply these passions through a retail space that catered to a new and receptive market,” Karen said.
The pair opened their doors to Darby Street goers in September 2019, and have been bringing their relaxed style to us locals ever since.
“This was a move many months in the planning. The driving force was a vision to reach a bigger and wider demographic and to diversify our product ranges,” Karen said.
Sharing their coastal, organic, earthy, and relaxed range with the people of Newcastle, Boho Luxe Trader covers fashion, homewares, art, accessories and much more.
“Boho Luxe Trader is about giving customers a welcoming, relaxing and inviting in-store experience. We want all customers to remember the experience they had in store shopping, or simply browsing with us.
“We’re bringing that coastal vibe to the hub of the city. It’s all about being your lazy Sunday destination. Coffee on Darby Street before a slow stroll and then treating yourself to that new signature piece for the house, or piece of in-season clothing that you have been eyeing off,” Olivia said.
The name, Boho Luxe Trader, comes from a concept to create a mix of Bohemian with a tweak of Luxury. The Trader part? Well to inform customers that they’re open for business of course!
The retail space on Darby has only recently expanded their range, with the launch of their Mums and Bubs range; Bubba Boho. Now offering a little something for everyone who walks through their doors.
“Olivia and I are excited to continue immersing ourselves in the Newcastle community, and we would like to give a shout out to the other Darby Street traders for the warm welcome Boho Luxe Trader has received with relocating to Darby Street,” Karen said.
So go on, give these newcomers a visit and drop by Boho Luxe Trader.
